First off, thank you to everyone for the well-wishes, prayers, and offers to help with Nate. It has seriously meant so much.
For those of you who have no clue what I’m talking about, here’s the story. Every dream I have is a nightmare. And I don’t mean, like, Martin Luther King Jr. dreams. When I sleep at night, if I dream, it’s scary. Always. Last night I woke up from a dream that someone was in my house and taking Nate. I went to check on him, and everything was fine, but I started to have a panic attack about what would happen if someone DID take him. I thought about things like… would the kidnapper know that “ditdoo” means “thank you” and that Nate despises macaroni and cheese?
So I couldn’t really sleep and was insanely tired this morning. I was running late, so rather than making my normal egg and cheese sandwich, I had a bowl of Fruit Loops. After dropping Nate off, I decided I needed coffee, so I went to a donut shop to get some… and then thought that the sugar of a donut would help keep me awake.
Other than being sleepy, I was fine pretty much all day, except I got a headache around noon, so I took some Excedrin. I didn’t get hungry again until about three, and I ate a Fiber One bar. So basically, I ate nothing of real value all day.
Then suddenly at four, I started feeling really nauseous and faint and sweating profusely, and ended up going to the bathroom to throw up. Then I posted on Facebook/Twitter about it, and everyone said I needed to go to the doctor. I was freaking out because I had to pick up Nate at 5:30. But I felt so horrible that I ended up leaving work and calling Kathy (Nate’s daycare mom) and she said he could stay there as long as I needed. [Side note: Kathy is AWESOME. If you are in Tallahassee and need an amazing in-home daycare, Kathy Cowan is the person you need to talk to. She’s so great that we actually drive an extra hour out of our way every single day to take Nate to her.]
Anyway, I went to the doctor where I sat in an examining room wondering why the room was spinning. They took my blood pressure, and it was 154/100, which is outrageous. They ended up running an EKG, checking my oxygen, and testing my blood sugar, all of which were normal. However, the EKG was awkward because the nurse was kind of cute, and I’m a super fat dude that had to take my shirt off in front of her. And she kept starting at my moobs… as if I wasn’t already self-conscious enough.
They checked my blood pressure again, and it was down to a much more normal level. So basically, what the doctor figured out is that I had a migraine, that came on VERY suddenly. But I get migraines a lot, and this one was worse than normal.
Anyway, he thinks I have sleep apnea, plus I know I have restless leg syndrome, which basically means that I suck at sleeping. Lack of sleep means that my body isn’t really rested… ever. And because of that stress on my body, when I do sleep, I have nightmares, which keep me up even more. And staying awake more leads to fatigue and eventually migraines. It’s a cycle of suck.
So to fix all of my problems, I need to fix the root problem, which is my possible sleep apena. They’re going to figure out with my insurance who I should go to so I can get a sleeping test done. And hopefully if they diagnose me, I can get treated, and the cycle of suck will stop.
